You, Me and DupreeCredit: Universal Pictures
There is nothing new here. Check out old classics like The Man Who Came to Dinner and, more recently, Down and Out in Beverly Hills. Owen is a master at playing the stoner or slacker, cute, means-well guy who never grew up and it’s his comedy and the charm of golden girl Kate Hudson that makes this film watchable, although the Molly character is just too sweet to be true. Matt Dillon is earnest and okay as the straight man for Owen here but this isn’t the winning Wilson/Vaughn combo of The Wedding Crashers. Like in the aforementioned old films, the wacky houseguest does sort of lead his friends to loosen up and enjoy life or to value love in this case. It’s a very lightweight version of that message but it works okay.
If you laugh easily at physical comedy, there is plenty to chew on here. Not a comedy classic but an okay summer date nite at the multi-plex.
For performances and lightweight summer farce.. 3 out of 5 stars
